Tumi Ghana is a Dutch non-profit organisation, supporting women, children & LGBTQ+ youth in Kumasi, Ghana since 2017.
About us
Tumi Ghana’s mission is to support women, children, and young people toward a future of confidence, independence, and opportunity.
At Tumi International School, children do not learn to chase the highest grade, but to discover the best in themselves. Every child deserves a joyful, calm learning environment where they feel safe to grow. We focus on curiosity, creativity, emotional well-being, and the practical skills needed to build a strong future.
In our Women Empowerment Center, young women are trained as seamstresses and designers, and receive coaching in entrepreneurship, financial management, and marketing. They are also given access to sexual health education and free contraception. This supports women to become skilled, independent, and able to provide for themselves and their families.
With Tumi Beyond Labels, we provide emergency housing and community support for LGBTQ+ youth and individuals facing discrimination or homelessness. This safe space offers short-term accommodation, meals, emotional support, and guidance toward stable long-term solutions. The aim is simple: every person deserves safety, dignity, and a place where they belong.
Across all our programs, we believe in empowerment from within.
We stand for community, resilience, and the right to thrive.

Background
Tumi Ghana began in 2017 with the establishment of our Women Empowerment Center and the Tumi Hostel, both designed to provide safety, skill-building, and economic independence for young women. Over the years, these programs have grown successfully and have positively impacted many lives.
As we worked closely with the women in our community, we saw that empowerment starts much earlier. To build true long-term change, children need a strong, supportive foundation from the very beginning.
In response, we expanded our mission in 2023 and opened Tumi International Primary School, where children learn in a joyful, confidence-building environment that nurtures curiosity and emotional well-being alongside academics.
In 2025, as we continued listening to the needs within our community, we recognized another group in urgent need of safety and support: individuals facing discrimination or homelessness due to their gender identity or sexual orientation. This led to the creation of Tumi Beyond Labels, we are preparing towards our emergency housing and safe space for LGBTQ+ youth and adults. Here, we will provide temporary shelter, meals, emotional support, and guidance toward stable and dignified long-term solutions.
Together, these three pillars form our holistic approach to empowerment:
a safe beginning, supportive growth, and a foundation for independence.
