Tumi Beyond Labels

Emergency Housing and Empowerment for LGBTQ+ Youth in Kumasi, Ghana

Tumi Beyond Labels is a safe and empowering space for LGBTQ+ individuals who have been forced from their homes or face the risk of homelessness. In Ghana, many young people experience discrimination and rejection simply for expressing who they are. This project offers immediate safety, dignity, and a pathway to rebuilding.

Tumi has been a trusted meeting place and supportive community for LGBTQ+ people in Kumasi for years. The vision for this project comes directly from lived experience within our own team. What was once a lifeline for one person in crisis is now growing into a structured, community-based support system for many.

Tumi Beyond Labels provides short-term emergency accommodation, meals and basic needs, counseling and emotional support, and opportunities for personal development and skills building. Working together with partner organizations in housing support and mental health, we help each resident move from crisis toward stability and self-reliance.

Our goal is simple. No one should be left alone without safety or belonging because of their identity. Tumi Beyond Labels creates a place where healing, community, and empowerment can begin.

We expect to open in early 2026 and are currently actively fundraising. Would you like to contribute to a safe and loving space for LGBTQ+ youth in Kumasi? Support us by donating on our website. Together we can make this happen.
